The man previously worked as a physician at a health center in Helsingborg. However, after he left, the health center's workplace code was used for several years in conjunction with prescriptions of, above all, the genotropin preparation. It is a growth hormone that is used, among other things, in strength training to build muscle. "A relatively expensive drug that is attractive in illegal circuits," notes IVO.

Growth hormone for SEK 1.8 million

The preparation has been taken from various pharmacies in southern and central Sweden. In February 2019, a pharmacy in Stockholm took suspicion of over-prescribing and notified the doctor to IVO who has now decided to report the doctor.

- An unusual case, it is not so often legitimate staff are reported to the prosecution, says Kristina Bramstång.

IVO's investigation shows that the doctor has printed Genotropin a total of 81 times in 146 packages at a cost of SEK 1.8 million.

He is also suspected of having printed Botox at a total cost of SEK 170,000. Botox is used, among other things, in beauty treatments. In total, the prescriptions have thus cost Region Skåne almost SEK 2 million.

Claims to have given out his prescription code

The doctor himself claims that he has no knowledge of the prescriptions and how the code of the Skåne health center could continue to be used for several years after he left that workplace. However, he admits that he has given out his prescription code to a man who would help the doctor build a website. He has thus committed himself to "a very irresponsible handling of sensitive data" writes IVO.

IVO has also requested that the Health Board's responsibility committee, HSAN, should withdraw the doctor's right to prescribe narcotic drugs.

The doctor is now active in Gothenburg.
