The national equalization system means that money from rich regions is moved to poorer regions. The regions with less financial resources benefit from the system, while the Stockholm region loses money on the total.

Now, the Stockholm Financial Region Council, Irene Svenonius (M), thinks it is unsustainable and requests a break from the payment obligation.

- We have had the biggest outbreak of covid-19, huge costs, huge loss of revenue and we see that the financial impact of covid-19 will land upwards of ten billion for us in two years, says the Financial Region Council.

Brackemodern wants to see tax reform

But it is not only the Stockholm region that has been hit hard by the corona pandemic. Bräcke municipality, which was hit hard by the corona virus, has also been affected financially.

However, the Deputy Chairman of the local council, Johan Loock (M), does not want to comment on Region Stockholm's demands.

- In general, we think moderates should state more responsibility in the tax equalization system. We would like to see a whole tax reform, so my answer is that the state should take greater responsibility, he says.

So you don't have to hope for Djursholm?

- That said, I don't want to put the city against land on this issue, says Johan Loock.
