It has been 16 years since the double murder in Linköping, where an eight-year-old boy and a 56-year-old woman were stabbed to death in a residential area in Linköping early on a rainy Tuesday morning in October.

With the help of genealogy, a 37-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion in the case - he has also admitted the murders. But the prosecution will be delayed, says prosecutor Britt-Louise Viklund, who is the lead investigator.

- It's a great investigation. Even though the investigation is complete, it will take time before the prosecution becomes clear, she tells SVT News East.

Undergoing investigation

The suspected man admitted the extension without a detention hearing and he is currently at the forensic medical facility in Huddinge to undergo a major forensic psychiatric investigation. The prosecution time has now been extended to August 5, but it may take longer than that.

- I can already say that it probably is not finished until then, says Britt-Louise Wiklund.
