The shelling that suddenly began at 15:30 caught 77-year-old Lydia Shirochenko at the exit from the kitchen, and her 78-year-old husband, Viktor, in the courtyard of the house. The couple did not even have time to realize what was happening when one of the shells hit the roof of the kitchen and exploded.

Alexei, a neighbor of the Shirochenko family, saw what happened and immediately ran to the married couple to the rescue. He provided Lydia with first aid. At this time, other neighbors called an ambulance. But due to the ongoing shelling, the doctors were not able to come. Then Aleksey himself delivered an elderly woman to the hospital by car.

“I had severe shrapnel wounds. Doctors amputated my left leg and right arm, ”says Lydia Shirochenko. “The husband received minor shrapnel wounds.”

Lydia was hospitalized for more than a month. Since then, she is forever confined to a wheelchair. Victor passed away in 2019. Now the son takes care of the woman.
