The Inspectorate for Healthcare and Care, IVO, has previously examined 1,000 elderly care businesses - and then discovered "serious deficiencies" in every ten residents.

Since then, IVO has extended its examination to all of the country's special housing units, 1,700.

Three elderly homes in Östergötland

The results, presented on Tuesday by Social Minister Lena Hallengren (S) and Sofia Wallström, Director General of IVO, show that 40 municipalities account for almost 70 percent of all deaths in elderly housing.

IVO also estimates that the situation has been extra serious in 91 elderly homes in the country. Therefore, IVO will proceed with a special examination of them, and three of the accommodations are thus located in Östergötland. Åleryd's care home in Linköping, Betaren's accommodation in Finspång and Västerliden in Kinda municipality.
