“As far as we are aware, this detention is in no way connected with journalistic activities, which Ivan Safronov previously engaged in,” said Peskov.

In addition, he noted that Roscosmos, where Safronov had recently worked, also made a statement about the detention of his employee.

“Since we are not aware of the details of what happened, I cannot provide any more information,” the Kremlin representative added.

He also said that the head of state, Vladimir Putin, was not informed of the relevant case.

“We learn about this from the media. There is absolutely no need for the president to inform about all the nuances of the work of counterintelligence. This is work that is ongoing 24 hours a day, ”he emphasized.

Earlier in Moscow, adviser to the general director of Roscosmos, Ivan Safronov, was charged, who is charged under the article “High treason”.

According to the FSB, Safronov carried out the mission of "one of the NATO special services", collected and transmitted information that makes up state secrets.
