The party was announced on social media. They had a DJ, a pool, alcohol, drugs, a dataphone to provide payment facilities, gas for laughter and even an exclusively expensive price for VIP attendees: 100 euros, more than double the cost of normal admission.

With the main discotheques closed and its famous deserted streets - those in which the City Council has been forced to put up posters to announce that there are sanctions for walking naked - Magaluf lives his first summer with his main economic engine stopped: binge tourism .

To try to circumvent the situation and make cash, a hundred seasonal workers from this famous area of Mallorca, the most popular British tourism ghetto, organized an illegal party last weekend in a chalet in a residential area ironically called Costa de la Calm, a few kilometers from their usual clubs.

The Local Police learned through social networks that the party was being organized, announced as a 'pool party' and illustrated with a unicorn float. And thwarted the plan. Not only was she not licensed, but she was also in breach of all prescriptions to prevent Covid-19 infections. Nine officers broke into the mansion in the early hours of Saturday afternoon and the revelry was over. According to police sources, five acts were obtained for possession of narcotic substances, although the owners of the drug could not be identified. The organizers face a possible exemplary fine of between 30,000 and 300,000 euros.

It is not the only place in the Balearic Islands where these types of illegal parties have been detected, which are beginning to be known in the popular slang as 'Covid parties', a phenomenon that alarms and worries the authorities, and which yesterday even led to the president of the autonomous government, Francina Armengol, to demand "prudence" and to make a public appeal for moderation to the population. "You cannot play with health," said the Balearic president, aware that a regrowth would not only be a health problem but would also have a devastating effect on the islands' image as a safe destination for European tourism.

On the same weekend, a well-known beach bar had to be closed in the Portals area of Mallorca, due to the massive influx of customers. And in Ibiza, where fear of the proliferation of this kind of illegal parties in private mansions keeps authorities on alert, an illegal party was also detected last weekend. When the police officers came, one of the assistants came to attack the officers, being arrested. The main nightlife business association has clamored against this situation, asking the administration not to tolerate this type of party, especially while preventing them from their normal activity.

So far, the Balearic Islands have suffered a relatively low incidence of the coronavirus, with 2,327 officially diagnosed infected and 227 people dead. After becoming the first tourist laboratory in Spain, opening hotels and flights for 1,500 tourists in the second half of June, since July 1 international tourists began to arrive, although the rate of influx and opening of establishments is being very slow.

In the last ten days there have been three low intensity outbreaks. One of them, as this newspaper reported, in the city of Palma.
