“The extent of damage to Arctic water resources is unprecedented. The amount corresponds to it. If we recall the accident of the Exxon Exxon Valdis tanker off the coast of Alaska, the amount of damage and fines presented was more than $ 5 billion, ”the Minister quoted Interfax as saying.

Earlier, Rosprirodnadzor reported that they had carried out a “calculation of the harm” caused to the environment by a fuel spill in Norilsk.

So, the damage is estimated at almost 148 billion rubles.

On May 29, diesel fuel spilled at the CHPP-3 owned by Norilsk Nickel.

As stated by the head of Norilsk Nickel Vladimir Potanin, the company will fully finance the emergency response.

On June 19, Potanin announced that Norilsk Nickel had funded the liquidation of the consequences of the emergency by 5 billion rubles.
