Colin Connolly was admitted to the private day hospital for a simple routine fiberoptic examination and found the bill a little salty.
“ Just before I went to the hospital, I learned that I had to be tested for Covid-19 , and that it would cost me 100 euros, in addition to the cost of the operation. I contacted my health insurance, who had not heard of it. It turned out that the 100 euros were not refundable. So it was a bit of a shock, ”he says.
" 100 euros is still a bit excessive "
Some establishments charge up to 250 euros for screening, and not all procedures are available in the private sector. The psychologist, who lives in Kildare, near Dublin, is divided.
“ On the one hand, even if I paid 100 euros, I have peace of mind: I know that I am going to a completely safe place. But 100 euros is still a bit excessive, especially if you can't get a refund. Usually, you pay the bill, then health insurance reimburses you for part. This kind of thing is getting more and more normal, where is it going to end? "He wonders.
The consumers' association described this additional cost as " dismal ", since private hospitals were nationalized during the health crisis and have no financial losses to suffer.
