A young man was seriously injured when he was brutally beaten after being mistaken for his twin brother, whom the attackers were looking for because he had sent a heart to the account of the girlfriend of one of them on Instagram. The alleged perpetrators, two other brothers, old acquaintances of the security forces, have been detained by the National Police accused of an injury crime.
This bizarre event began at 6.30 on June 27 at the gates of a nightlife establishment in the Puerto Deportivo de Estepona. The victim was with a friend and two girls when he was approached by a young man who was accompanied by his brother and whom he knew by sight.
According to what EL MUNDO has learned from sources close to the case, one of them began to scold him and spat on him , but the discussion did not go any further because the local security evicted them from the door. The boy left, but he couldn't imagine what he would experience moments later.
When he was arriving at his home, he was intercepted by the two brothers, a third young man carrying a dangerous breed dog and a girl, who again harassed him.
During the harassment and intimidation sequence , one of the alleged attackers allegedly hit the victim with a stick on the head, who saw a metallic flash during the fray before feeling a sharp stab in the back. As he was brutally assaulted, he listened as the third young man was yelled at to release the dog to bite him.
Despite being wounded, he managed to escape on the run, mislead his attackers - who were chasing him - and reach the Estepona Police Station, located at number 1 Calle Valle Inclán. There he was helped by the agents, to whom he related the attack he had suffered minutes before and told his background.
The young man, who at that time claimed that he could not see through the left eye, explained that his attackers were known by sight of his twin brother and that he believed that the attack occurred because he gave a "like" to a photo on Instagram of the girlfriend of one of the attackers. In conclusion, he was convinced that he was mistaken for his brother.
The victim had to receive health care because he had a serious injury to the frontal region, bruises on other parts of the body, as well as a "deep wound" in the scapular area, predictably made with a knife, said sources said.
The National Police, knowing the identity of the alleged attackers, two brothers, 18 and 22 years old, old acquaintances of the security forces, launched a tracking device that paid off on June 29.
Both were arrested and taken to police offices accused of an offense of injuries , to be later brought to the attention of Investigating Court number 5 in Estepona.
