05 July 2020 The third speleologist involved yesterday in the accident in the Risorgiva di Roccamorice, in the province of Pescara, on the slopes of the Majella, was recovered lifeless. He had been stuck in the afternoon together with two other companions because of the persistent rains that flooded a passage 70 meters from the entrance of the cavity.

The Alpine and Speleological Rescue Department extracted the body from the flooded cave, as soon as the water level allowed recovery. The water in the cavity was drained by the fire brigade by means of drains. The alarm had gone off late yesterday afternoon. By 8pm two speleologists from the Marches had been recovered, tried but in good physical condition and transferred to the Pescara hospital for tests. They were all part of a group in the local Speleo Club.

The operations continued throughout the night in the hope of finding the third member of the group alive. Until the dramatic discovery. The victim is Alessio Carulli, 42 years old from Arielli (Chieti), geologist. The body was reached after many hours. Then transported along a narrow path to the nearby road and handed over to the authorities.
