Botswana government is investigating elephant deaths

The southern African country of Botswana is known as the "Elephant Kingdom" and is the country with the largest number of elephants in the world. However, there have recently been "bizarre" incidents of massive elephant deaths in the country. According to a recent report by the British "Guardian", in the beginning of May, the death of elephants was reported for the first time in the Okavango Delta region of Botswana. In the past two months, more than 350 elephants have died.

A few days ago, the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Protection and Tourism of Botswana issued a statement saying that since March 2020, an unexplained elephant death occurred in the Serunga region in northwestern Bo, and 275 elephants have been verified so far. The body and cause of death are under further investigation and no evidence of poaching has been found. The samples have been sent to 3 laboratories in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Canada.
