    Second wave

Speaking about the likely timing of the new wave of COVID-19, the former head of the WMA World Trade Union of Physicians, Professor Leonid Eidelman, expressed an opinion in an interview with RIA Novosti that a re-surge in the incidence should be expected in late autumn.

“We expect a big wave in November-December. It should be understood that in November-December there will be an increase - as every year - of respiratory diseases. Therefore, it will be difficult to distinguish patients who cough, sneeze, from those with COVID-19. This is a big problem, ”said the specialist.

The professor emphasized that the health system should be fully mobilized by November, when a seasonal outbreak of SARS will overlap with the predicted wave of the epidemic. He also expressed confidence that the autumn wave of incidence will be more significant than the summer increase in infections.

At the same time, Eidelman considers it unreasonable to introduce, if necessary, quarantine measures throughout the country, as this will lead to a worsening of the economic crisis.

“The right tactics are regional quarantines in those places where there are many cases ... It is necessary to introduce quarantines in these places, and not throughout the country,” said Adelman.

    Aggressiveness decline COVID-19

In turn, the Russian virologist, MD Anatoly Altstein said that the aggressiveness of COVID-19 will significantly decline no earlier than in a year. The expert stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.

“From a year to three years. Maybe more. There is nothing to be done, he is, this SARS-CoV-2. It differs from the coronaviruses we have dealt with so far: it’s much more contagious, and the last five months have shown that it’s difficult to get rid of it, ”the virologist said.

“In addition to the hope that it will gradually weaken, we also need to think about collective immunity, which means vaccination. I think that vaccines will be developed and will be applied widely next year, ”he added.

Altstein explained that from an evolutionary point of view, it is not beneficial for viruses to cause a serious illness and kill their carrier, because then the infection cannot be transmitted further.

“Coronaviruses, in principle, are adapted to handle organisms gently, that is, to use their capabilities, multiply, live at their expense, without causing severe harm,” the specialist noted.

According to him, in the years 1930-1940, researchers studied the evolution of infectious diseases and concluded that they occur in severe form only for the first time, and then become easier. The doctor expressed the hope that the new virus will also go this way.

In the operational headquarters on the situation with coronavirus, they remind that when any symptoms of SARS appear, it is necessary to stay at home and call a doctor. It is strictly forbidden to self-medicate. Russians are urged not to risk life and health - both their own and those around them.
