Pubs and hairdressers reopen in England: "I think it's a bit early"

In England, pubs, restaurants and hotels, as well as cinemas and museums reopen this Saturday, as well as some shops such as hairdressers. But Scotland and Wales are not affected by this relaxation of sanitary measures after four months of confinement. RFI visited a historic pub in central London.

Open since 1739, in the heart of Soho, the Lyric is one of the oldest public houses in this emblematic district. Morally and financially the pandemic was a difficult test. And even if manager Kieran apprehends the possible overflows, everything is ready for the grand reopening this weekend. "  When people arrive, the manager will direct them either to the bar to order take-out beer or to their table so that they can order with our new application," he explains. The virus has changed everything but the British love their pubs so much that they are ready to risk a second confinement just to be able to go to the pub ... I think they need it so as not to go crazy!  "

The Lyric has already filled up with reservations for several days. However, are all the British eager to find their pubs this weekend? "  I think it is a little too early when we see people letting go by mixing alcohol and sun on the news, it is not a good idea  ", fears this Briton.

"Don't overdo it"

"  As long as people stay reasonable, I don't see the problem," believes the Londoner. I will join my friends to discuss, get news; that's what we missed. "

Reasonable, not everyone has decided to be: "  We're going to get a good binge!  "Rejoices a young Englishman.

The government also seems divided. "  Do not exaggerate  ," pleaded a prime minister on Friday evening suddenly going from euphoria to sobriety to urge the British to moderation.
