Peter Sandwall is currently Director General of the Armed Forces and has previously worked both in the Ministry of Finance and in the Navy. He will take over as governor of Kalmar County on September 26 this year until and the assignment extends until the end of August 2026, with the possibility of extension for another three years.

- He has some knowledge with him that can be good, about crisis management and the overall defense, which I think we will work even more with after the pandemic. Since then, the Swedish Armed Forces has worked a lot with equality and diversity, which I think he can contribute here too, says Cecilia Schelin Seidegård.

Takes over scandal-ridden mission

The new governor takes over the assignment from the substitute governor Cecilia Schelin Seidegård, who took office in October last year. Her representative was forced to resign when it emerged that he had paid black salaries to the serving staff during his private parties in the residence.

The governor, even before, was forced to resign when it emerged that he had phoned telephone lines for tens of thousands of tax dollars and had destructive alcohol habits.

- It is a very good authority which in itself is not scandal-infused, but on the other hand, former governors have been unlucky enough. Peter is a profile that I believe will generate a safe and secure workplace, so I am very confident with this recruitment, says Cecilia Schelin Seidegård.

How does it feel to you to leave your assignment as a deputy governor?

- I knew it was time-limited, but of course it is sad to leave Kalmar, but you must not get too soft, she says.
