Jean Castex was appointed Prime Minister this Friday by Emmanuel Macron. He succeeds Edouard Philippe who resigned this Friday morning, resignation accepted by the Elysée after more than three years spent in Matignon.
Former collaborator of Nicolas Sarkozy, Jean Castex, 55, mayor LR of Prades, a town of 60,000 inhabitants in the Pyrénées-Orientales, had been responsible for coordinating work on the release of confinement in France.
Edouard Philippe returns to Le Havre
Appointed on May 15, 2017 by Emmanuel Macron, Edouard Philippe will resume his functions as mayor of Le Havre, after being re-elected last Sunday with 59% of the votes in the second round of the municipal elections. It must be formally installed this Sunday at 10 am during the municipal council in his fief.
Following the resignation of the government, the Council of Ministers, scheduled for Friday morning, will not be held. The composition of the new government should be known before Wednesday, the scheduled date of the next cabinet, according to the president's entourage.
