No need to go through 14 days of isolation to enter England. As the coronavirus epidemic seems to be marking time, travelers from around fifty countries - including France, Spain and Italy - will be exempt from quarantine as of July 10, the government announced on Friday British.

Since June 8, everyone, including British residents, arriving in the United Kingdom must observe a quarantine of 14 days duration to avoid a resurgence of the epidemic of new coronavirus at the time when the United Kingdom deconfins. The Department of Transport is to release the full list of countries affected by the exemptions, but has released the main lines.

A decision welcomed by the tourism sector

Please note, these exemptions currently only apply to arrivals in England. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland keep the quarantine. "I really hope the four nations can move at the same pace, it would make things a lot easier for people, but it is up to them to make these decisions for themselves," said Transport Minister Grant Shapps on the BBC.

UK Tourism Director Visit Britain Patricia Yates welcomed the "welcome boost to the tourism industry as we enter the peak season", while the airline EasyJet welcomed an "important gesture". The establishment of a quarantine had angered the airlines, even pushing British Airways, EasyJet and Ryanair to take legal action against the government in order to end this measure deemed catastrophic for tourism.

The UK has the highest number of coronavirus deaths in Europe (44,000), but the number of cases is slowing and the country has started to lift restrictions imposed during the confinement which lasted three months. In a statement, the Department of Transport said however that London would not hesitate to reimpose restrictions if the number of contaminations were to increase in the countries towards which the United Kingdom opens again. *
