French President Emmanuel Macron yesterday appointed Jean Castex, a senior civil official and mayor who managed France’s exit from public isolation measures imposed because of Corona, as the new prime minister in the context of a cabinet reshuffle.

The Elysee Palace said in a brief statement that Castex will carry out the task of forming the next government, and replaced Edward Felipe, who resigned earlier yesterday.

The 55-year-old Castex was a former aide to former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, a Republican and head of the municipality of Brad in southwest France. Since April, he has been appointed as an inter-ministerial commissioner to lift the isolation measures.

Castex will be responsible for coordinating the second phase of Macron's five-year term, with the aim of breathing new life into his presidency after three years of power that have been marred by controversial reforms and multiple crises.

Cassette will now set up a government team to take over in the coming days.

The French Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe, left his post after he occupied it for three years, and the Philippe government submitted its resignation, which Macron accepted before a few days after the second round of the municipal elections, which constituted a setback for the presidential party.
