On Friday, Birka Cruise's board decided that the entertainment cruises with M / S Birka Stockholm will cease.

- We have had a profitability challenge for several years. Since March, the ship has been stationary with zero revenue, says Tomas Karlsson, CEO Birka Cruises.

Hundreds of employees are affected

More than 500 employees are affected by the closure. At Birka Cruises AB, a sales company located at Slussen, 43 people are affected. The personnel on board M / S Birka Stockholm, on the other hand, are employed by another company, Rederi Eckerö AB, which has 466 employees spread over two vessels.

- What is happening now is that two vessels will become one. This means that fewer staff are needed. Now we will start negotiations with Seko seafarers and the Naval Command Association, says CEO Tomas Karlsson.
