• Congress, PSOE and Unidas Podemos approve, among strong criticisms, the reconstruction plans with the support of Ciudadanos
  • Reconstruction Commission. The government veto of the concerted school prevents an agreement with PP and Cs on social policies

The veto imposed by the PSOE and United We Can on concerted education made the agreement impossible today in the working group on social policies of the Commission for Social and Economic Reconstruction of Spain. In the text that came out ahead, with 155 votes in favor, 132 against and five abstentions, the exclusion of financial aid was maintained to alleviate the effects of Covid-19 on this model in which a quarter of the students study.

They only supported the document PSOE and United We Can, which shows the little support that these parties have had in their attempt to turn their backs on education financed with public funds. If Vox had not been absent from the Commission, a document that may work as a prelude to the future support that the Celaá law could have in September , which is currently being processed in Congress and which is equally restrictive with the concerted one , would not have been approved. .

PP, Ciudadanos, JxCat and the Canary Coalition had proposed in their amendments that these schools could receive government aid. But in the controversial proposal 18.1 it will remain that "the totality of the increase in investment will go to directly managed public education." The Government foresees an injection of 2,000 million euros to the autonomous communities, which are the ones that will distribute the money. In the sector it is interpreted that the approved document "gives a letter of nature" to the regional governments so as not to give additional aid to these schools.

The position of PSOE and Unidas Podemos did not change one iota yesterday. The spokeswoman for the socialists in the lower house, Adriana Lastra, defended that her training clearly bets "for public education." The representative of Unidas Podemos, Pablo Echenique, rejected the aid to the concerted because the Government has agreed to allocate all the support and investment for education to public schools "of direct management."

PP and Ciudadanos refused to support a text that "leaves freedom" for families to choose the education of their children, in the words of the popular. Sources from the orange formation stressed that "the Government has been left alone because of its educational sectarianism."

Meanwhile, employers, unions and parents' associations joined yesterday to denounce "the flagrant discrimination" committed against "a large part of the Spanish population".

The Catholic Schools and CECE employers 'associations, the parents' associations of La Concapa and Cofapa and the unions Fsie and USO threatened to mobilize in September to protest the lack of aid, "as long as there is no perceived commitment that guarantees that they will not the rights of millions of Spaniards are going to be stolen ».

"Concerted education is not elitist and excluding it is a clear segregation improper from European democracies, which promote freedom of education and finance it without complexes to favor a freedom of real choice", these groups denounce.
