The Media Support Committee has granted 192 of the 231 applications it has received this year. Due to the pandemic, the government has added extra resources this year. The priority for support concerns efforts to start, maintain or expand journalistic surveillance in areas with weak media coverage. The support goes to daily newspapers, free newspapers, web magazines and a news app, which is Sävsjöappen.

- This is important to us. Like all news media that is dependent on advertising revenue, it has been a tough spring. The first quarter was disastrous, then we have recovered somewhat, says Linus Anderås.

The Sävsjö app has been around for five years and reaches about 5,000 Sävsjö residents each week. The municipality has about 11,000 inhabitants.

Extended weekend coverage

Thanks to the support, Sävsjöappen will now be able to increase from one service to 1.5. Above all, it is the weekend vigilance that it will invest extra.

- Then the municipal policy is important to us, it is nice to be able to keep that watch.

Corona pandemic times are uncertain. How do you see the future of Sävsjöappen?

- The feeling among our customers, who are the local stores, is that there is a greater future faith now than it did two months ago. So there is hope, says Linus Anderås.

In total, the media in the county will receive just over SEK 3.5 million in support from the Media Support Committee this year. Skillingaryd.nu with SEK 800,000 in support. Jönköpings-Posten receives more than SEK 1.2 million in support for monitoring Vaggeryd, Habo and Mullsjö.
