According to chairman Stefan Andersson, chairman of the Växjö canoe club, both boat owners and watercraft drivers who are organized in associations regarding regulations at sea follow. On the other hand, the unorganized drivers are worse off showing consideration when they are out on Helgasjön in Växjö.
- We cannot handle the dissemination of information to the disorganized watercraft drivers who run exactly as they want and therefore tougher legislation is needed, he says.
In an open letter to the government, the club asks Infrastructure Minister Tomas Eneroth (S) to act, and asks him to speed up a bill to tighten the requirements for both boat and watercraft drivers.
- What is needed is to introduce driver's licenses for boats and watercraft that run at more than 10 knots and raise the age limit to 18 years, says Stefan Andersson.
Last year, the age limit was set at 15 years, isn't that enough?
