“In the first Chechen war, the Russian army lost thousands of soldiers. Among the civilian population of the dead were tens of thousands, including those who were killed in terrorist acts in Budennovsk, Kizlyar, Pervomaisk, Ingushetia. Why did this first war for modern Russia become so destructive? Why do many participants still remember her as hell? How did it turn out to stop the violence and terror, and at what cost? ” - says the description of the program.

These issues were discussed by journalists who saw that war with their own eyes: Roman Babayan, Alexander Sladkov, Alexey Samoletov, Mikhail Leontyev, as well as military commissars Oksana Boyko and Andrei Medvedev.

The RT channel launched the Voenkory project, in which famous war correspondents share stories and personal experiences in hot spots, as well as discuss military conflicts.

Earlier, RT opened the reception of applications for participation in the Khaled Alkhateb International Memorial Awards, an annual international award awarded to journalists for best works from the conflict zone.

The award was established in memory of the journalist Khaled al-Khatib who died in Syria, who collaborated with RT Arabic. In 2020, it will be awarded for the third time.
