“The Security Council today supported the Secretary General’s call for a global ceasefire amid COVID-19 by adopting a resolution,” RIA Novosti quoted the statement as saying.

In the adopted resolution, the Security Council notes that violence and instability in conflicts can aggravate a pandemic, which, in turn, can aggravate the humanitarian crisis in such countries.

Security Council members called for an immediate and widespread ceasefire and a “humanitarian pause” for at least 90 days for unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.

However, this measure does not apply to operations against international terrorist organizations designated by the Security Council.

In mid-May, Russia's representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, stated that the Security Council resolution on cooperation measures in a pandemic was 99% ready.

In March, UN Secretary General António Guterres called for a ceasefire in all conflicts of the world over the situation with COVID-19.
