The meeting of the Executive of the PSOE in Madrid ended this Wednesday in anger after the secretary general, José Manuel Franco, proposed José Cepeda as deputy spokesman in the regional Assembly, 'number two' of an Angel Gabilondo who in Ferraz consider very lukewarm in front of the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. Franco prevented the decision from being voted and at least one of the members of the Executive, José Antonio Díaz, demanded that his opposition be recorded in the minutes so that it could not be said that it had been unanimously, as EL MUNDO has learned.

Socialists from Madrid have been searching for weeks for a spokesman attached to Gabilondo with a more severe profile after the winner of the last regional elections ignored Ferraz's indications of extreme opposition to Díaz Ayuso. Gabilondo received these indications at a meeting attended by the Prime Minister and leader of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, his chief of staff, Iván Redondo, and Franco himself.

The chosen one is a historian of Madrid socialism, parliamentary for five legislatures and in the last four senators by autonomous appointment. He was secretary of Communication in the Executive of Rafael Simancas. Personal friend of the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Government, Félix Bolaño, it is, therefore, a direct appointment of Sánchez, according to socialist sources.

Cepeda, who will occupy the position vacated by José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes when he was appointed Minister of Culture, did not get the unanimous support of the regional Socialist Executive on Wednesday, as Franco's intention was.

As explained to EL MUNDO sources present at the meeting, José Antonio Díaz, a member of the party's regional executive and former vice-rector of UNED, asked to speak to demand that the appointment be voted, considering the imposition of "disrespect" from Cepeda. Faced with the refusal of the regional leadership, Díaz requested that "his opposition be recorded in the minutes so that no one would say that it had been unanimously," according to the sources consulted.

Along with Cepeda, Pilar Sánchez Acera will also be appointed as deputy spokesperson at the meeting that the Socialist Group will have in the Assembly next week.
