The chief infectious disease expert in the United States warned that the daily death toll from the new epidemic of coronavirus in his country may jump to 100,000 cases due to lax health guidelines, amid global fears of a second wave of the epidemic.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the Corona Crisis Prevention Cell, said during a hearing before a Senate committee yesterday, Tuesday, that the country is heading in the "wrong direction" regarding the pandemic, calling on Americans to put up masks and avoid crowds.

Fauchi stated that he is "very concerned and dissatisfied with what is happening because we are heading in the wrong direction", stressing that the worrying increase in new injuries in the Texas and Florida hotspots raises the daily toll of injuries recorded on American soil to more than 40 thousand, and stressed the need to reduce the pace quickly to avoid an outbreak New in other parts of the country.

"It is clear that things are not completely under control at present," the American expert said, adding, "I wouldn't be surprised if we hit 100,000 hits a day if we don't reverse the trend," stressing that "things can get worse."

Criticize some states

Fauchi expressed his belief that some states do not adhere to the criteria that define the mechanism for reopening commercial establishments and public places, and considered that young people go to bars without putting up masks and not being bound by social distancing is a "dangerous" behavior.

The American expert declined to speculate on the number of deaths that could result from the current wave of the outbreak, but estimates released last week by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that the death toll from Corona on US soil could reach 150,000 deaths by July 18. The death toll is currently about 130 thousand.

The Covid-19 epidemic, caused by the emerging coronavirus, has returned strongly in many countries, with increasing numbers of deaths and injuries amid warnings from a second wave.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Gebresus said the epidemic - which first appeared in China last December - was "far from over."

Gebrissos called on governments to check, track, isolate and quarantine the infected, to save lives from the virus.

Bleak global outlook

In the absence of a confirmed vaccine against the Coronavirus, despite the announcement by countries such as China of some "promising" tests, the World Health Organization said that expectations at the global level are still bleak, and called for the worst, especially in light of fears of the emergence of new viruses, after the discovery of a strain of influenza virus Pigs in China could turn into a pandemic.

According to the latest statistics published by the "Worldometer" platform, the total number of injuries worldwide reached 10 million and 583 thousand injuries, including 513 thousand deaths.

These numbers only reflect part of the actual number of injuries, as many countries only conduct tests for the most serious cases, while other countries give priority to conducting tests to track contacts with the injured, in addition to that a number of poor countries have limited examination capabilities.

Cases are increasing in Algeria

In the Arab world, Algeria recorded on Tuesday 336 new infections in the new Corona virus within 24 hours, in a record daily count.

"The total number of people infected with Covid-19 in Algeria has risen to about 140,000," said Jamal Furar, a spokesman for the government committee charged with monitoring and following up on the Coruna virus.

Algeria is the country most affected by the epidemic in the Maghreb. Like its neighbors, Tunisia and Morocco, it is on a list of 15 countries that the European Union has decided to allow immigrants to enter its territory from today, Wednesday.

The European decision was issued on Tuesday to reopen the borders to arrivals from 15 countries, including Canada and China, on the condition that Beijing treat it similarly, but the Union excluded from its decision the United States and Turkey.

The European decision does not change the situation with regard to Algeria, as the Algerian authorities decided on Sunday to keep their land borders, airports and ports closed until further notice due to the increase in the number of new daily infections with the Corona virus, in a boom attributed to the inaction of citizens in respect of preventive measures.
