• Politics.Abertza radicals threaten representatives of the PP in Zaldibar

"Tell the citizens how you fucked Miguel Ángel Blanco's girlfriend", they shouted to Carlos Iturgaiz last Monday when, together with Xavier García Albiol, he began his intervention before the media in Rekalde (Bilbao). The screams were clearly heard by Ertzainas , journalists and by Iturgaiz's candidates and companions. And the politician who is marked with blood and fire the drama of the murder of Blanco revived in 43 eternal seconds the cruelest personal disqualification campaign in Basque political history. Iturgaiz tried up to eight times to take up the thread of his intervention and tried to cover up with incomprehensible sounds that the microphone amplified the lie that has haunted him for two decades.

It was the great hoax generated just months after the social reaction against Herri Batasuna after the murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco on July 13, 1997. Carlos Iturgaiz had been chosen by the PP as a candidate for Lehendakari and the rumor spread among the class political and journalistic with speed. Mari Mar Díaz , the girlfriend of the councilor of Ermua , had already left the Biscayan municipality trying to recover from the drama that she lived with the Blanco family. The disappearance of Mari Mar Díaz placed all the foci of Blanco's legacy in her sister Mari Mar and, at the same time, fueled the insight that the councilman's girlfriend had had a romantic relationship with Iturgaiz. The successive waves of falsehoods prior to the regional elections placed Mari Mar Díaz as the mother of twins, the single mother of a child with traits similar to those of Iturgaiz and in an abortion clinic in London accompanied by the then and now PP candidate for the Lehendakaritza .

Díaz remade his life in Barcelona where he lives with his partner and their two children. Iturgaiz explained from the outset that everything was a hoax and warned that behind it was a political interest very close to Sabin Etxea , the PNV headquarters in Bilbao . Despite the hoax, Iturgaiz obtained a historic result at the polls on October 25, 1998 with almost 256,000 votes and 16 parliamentarians in the Basque Parliament .

22 years later and in the middle of the electoral campaign, the screams of the neighbor from Bilbao blocked Iturgaiz for a little more than half a minute. The spontaneous was placed next to the tripods of the media cameras that covered the act. Several ertzainas requested the documentation a few meters beyond and out of the media focus to another individual who had twice shouted 'Gora ETA' when passing by politicians and journalists.

The video has become viral in recent hours and the Basque PP candidate did not want to hide it. "What happened in the act with Albiol were witnessed by the media that follow us campaign and it is unfortunate to launch hoaxes in networks manipulating what happened," the PP politician published on Twitter along with the controversial video. Images that have fueled a wave of disqualifications on Iturgaiz's verbal fluency and even on his state of health.
