Last Friday, the Keeper of the Seals asked Catherine Champrenault, Attorney General of Paris, "a detailed report on the precise nature" of the investigation by the National Financial Prosecutor's Office (PNF), which aimed to identify a mole in the so-called case of "Listen".

A file that dates back to February 2014, when the prosecution wanted to sift through the telephone bills of dozens of magistrates and tenors of the bar to find the one who could have informed Nicolas Sarkozy and his lawyer Thierry Herzog that they were tapped in a case of corruption.

After receiving the conclusions of this report Tuesday, "Nicole Belloubet asked the General Inspectorate of Justice to conduct a functional inspection of this investigation," said a statement from the ministry.

"This inspection will determine the extent and proportionality of the investigations carried out and the procedural framework for this investigation," said the press release from the Keeper of the Seals.

Complaint by Dupond-Moretti

A measure that follows the revelations of the  Point on the extent of these tapping, having aroused a great stir among lawyers and in the political world. Eric Dupond-Moretti, one of the lawyers involved, said Tuesday that he had filed a complaint for "violation of the privacy of private life and the secrecy of correspondence" and "abuse of authority".

He should be followed by the President of Paris, Olivier Cousi, who castigated an "extraordinary and worrying" investigation.

"At no time did the magistrates and the investigators (...) come out of the nails," said the current PNF chief, Jean-François Bohnert. “The PNF operated these fadettes [detailed telephone bills] simply because he was looking for a leak that had occurred in another procedure and the objective was (…) in proportionality to work "to" shed light ", he justified.
