The Canneseries festival, postponed because of the coronavirus, confirms its holding from October 9 to 14, in parallel to the MipCom market (October 12-15), in a physical version on the Croisette and digital on the Canneseries Live platform.
The 3rd edition of this series festival, which should have been held from March 27 to April 1, maintains the same structure with ten series in competition, ten series in short series competition and screenings out of competition.
But the program is still under construction and will be announced at a press conference on September 22.
The festival specifies that six of the ten series initially scheduled for March in competition and nine of the ten series of the short series competition will be back.
This free event open to the public, chaired by former Minister of Culture Fleur Pellerin, had originally managed to get hold of prestigious exclusives, like the Disney series "The Mandalorian" or season 5 of the "Bureau of Legends ", but they have been released in the interim.
The American producer Gale Anne Hurd (who participated in the creation of "Terminator", and produced "The Walking Dead") remains president of the jury but will not be physically present, just like the actress Judith Light ("Madame is served" , "Transparent"), distinguished with a special price.
They will find the public via the new Canneseries Live platform, launched during the festival duration in addition to the current website.
This platform will offer free access to "exclusive and original" content such as series projections, masterclasses and interviews.
The development of the festival "will depend on the decisions taken by the health authorities in October" and "appropriate measures concerning the conditions of reception and management of flows will be taken accordingly", specify the organizers.
The Canneséries Institute, the series writing residence for young screenwriters, is maintained and will start on September 14 and finish the day after the closing, October 15.
The first edition of the Canneséries Writers Club, dedicated to professional screenwriters, will take place on October 13 and 14.
