According to Mikaela Engström (M), chairman of Vårgårda Bostäder, it is among other things that the renovation became more extensive than was intended, and that asbestos was found in the houses. But she does not want to go into the causes anymore when the project is currently being investigated in an external review.

The note could end at $ 374 million

According to the plan, the project would have cost around SEK 300 million. But according to one scenario, the final note can now be close to SEK 374 million. For the municipality of Vårgårda with more than 11,000 inhabitants, the investment is huge. If the City of Gothenburg were to make an equal investment in terms of the number of inhabitants, it would be about SEK 19 billion.

Mikaela Engström (M).

- It's never good when a project goes off like this has done. Now we are in the position that we are doing and then it is important to evaluate and see if it is possible to continue going forward, says Mikaela Engström.

What responsibility do you as a board have for having become that way?

- The board obviously has the highest responsibility for the company together with the CEO. Now I have only been in the company for just over a year. But of course we have the highest responsibility.

What should you have done differently so it wouldn't be this way?

- There is a lot that could have been done differently so clearly. I think that the board that sits today has taken the necessary measures. And with that, I refer to the CEO change we did this year. We probably had suspicions and found out last fall that it would be a costly increase in the project. It is only now that we have figures that show exactly how. It is something that affects the whole company. We have not had that overall picture before.

How worried are you about the economy?

- I'm extremely worried, of course. At the same time, I am convinced that the company has the expertise required to turn this around.
