The Foreign Ministry said that "the United States has taken the most destructive position in this regard, which officially announced that they do not intend to ratify the CTBT and are preparing the way for a possible resumption of nuclear tests."
As noted in the department, "the non-proliferation and arms control regime faces serious challenges" and "everything possible is necessary to overcome negative trends."
“Russia calls on the eight states mentioned above, and above all the USA, to reconsider their position and give green light to turning this most important treaty from the point of view of global security into a fully functioning international legal instrument,” the Foreign Ministry added.
At the end of May, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow did not exclude the United States’ preparations for secession from the CTBT.
