US revokes Hong Kong's special status at risk of diverting technology to China

The United States revoked Hong Kong's "special status" on Monday at the risk of "sensitive" US technology being diverted to Chinese authorities, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross reported .

"Commerce Department regulations allowing Hong Kong preferential treatment over China, including the availability of exceptions to export licenses, are suspended ," Ross said.
