Getafe had an excellent run in the race for Europe by beating 2 goals to 1 at home their immediate follower, Real Sociedad, Monday evening at the end of the 32nd day of Liga.
Getafe thus went from 6th to 5th place at the expense of Villarreal, consolidating its position as qualified for the Europa League and may even dream of a qualification for the Champions League.
The Pepe Bordalas team, in fact, is only two lengths away from Sevilla FC, the fourth and last virtual qualifier for the C1.
Real Sociedad, 7th with 47 points, is now four lengths behind Villarreal and five behind Getafe.
Jaime Mata opened the scoring for Madrid's commuters on penalty in the 20th minute, following a gross lack of recovery from goalkeeper Alejandro Remiro, but the Basques equalized by Belgian international Adnan Januzaj, launched by Mikel Oyarzabal at the limit of out of play (55th).
Mata finally managed the double and offered a precious victory to his family by going wrong near, right side, and between the legs, Alejandro Remiro (83rd).
For the next day, Getafe will play Thursday on the leader's pitch, Real Madrid, and Real Sociedad will host the last, Espanyol Barcelona, on the same day at the same time (20:00 GMT).
