In recent years, the number of TBE cases in Västra Götaland has increased significantly. From lying around 20 cases per year, the number has skyrocketed to over 60 cases per year over the past three years.

And fewer and fewer vaccines are present, which is marked by a reduced demand for vaccination by manufacturers. Especially when it comes to children, this is noted - one of the largest manufacturers has sold less than half of the usual number of children's doses in March to June.

- TBE is a very serious illness that can make you very ill. Therefore, it is important that you vaccinate yourself, says Peter Nolskog.

He says that he receives many reports that there are plenty of ticks, especially in Skaraborg.

- I picked three pieces myself this morning, then I had just walked around the house, he says.

Primary care cannot come with TBE

In addition, Peter Nolskog sees a risk of fewer vaccines when primary care is full of corona pandemic.

- I talked to a healthcare center in Lidköping, which is an area with a lot of TBE, and where they had put down their vaccination and referred to private actors, he says.

It is Åsgårdsskogen's health center which currently refers all vaccination to private operators

- The fact that one cannot book time at the health center, but must go on a drop-in at the tick bus means that more people are not able to vaccinate.

There are several hot spots in the region, including around Lake Vänern, but also in Bohuslän. On the infection protection Västra Götaland's website you can see a map of the worst affected areas.
