June 28, 2020 The Americans will miss especially the Italian holidays and it will be an absence that will be felt. Even from an economic point of view. In fact, while Italians begin to move around the country for summer holidays, the absence of non-European tourists is already weighing on tourism in Italy.

The alarm comes from Federalberghi and the crisis in the sector is also registered by Coldiretti, who speaks of a loss that almost reaches two billion euros (1.8 to be precise), with the borders closed during the summer to the Americans.

The recovery of the internal market is there, admits Bernabò Bocca, president of the hotel managers, who however complains about results still far from 2019. For now, foreign tourists come mainly from where you can get by car: Germany, Austria and Switzerland. But, he notes, it is "a limited influx of which the North especially benefits". For the rest, the absence of tourism from the United States and the United Kingdom weighs heavily and "one day lives".

Travelers from the USA are the most loyal non-EU tourists to Italy, with 12.4 million overnight stays during the summer. An important loss that adds up to those of travelers from Russia, which has been growing steadily in recent years. US tourists have historically had a high budget and, as privileged destinations in Italy, are the cities of art that will suffer most heavily from their absence.

"There are also concerns about the effects that the European Union's decision could have on the ongoing trade war with the United States with President Donald Trump who - Coldiretti recalls - has just published the definitive list of European products and countries under examination for new duties which for Italy affects two thirds of the value of agri-food exports and extends, among other things, to wine, oil and pasta made in Italy in addition to cheeses and cured meats that have already been affected ".
