“We believe that the demolition of the statue is the erasure of our Russian historical heritage,” the organization’s website said in a statement.
It is noted that a group of residents of Sitka came up with a proposal to dismantle the monument.
Alexander Baranov was the first Russian governor of Alaska, a monument to him is located in the historical center of Sitka.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that vandalism against monuments had completely stopped in the country after he introduced ten-year prison sentences for such crimes.
