Thunderbolt in Lorient! The Morbihan sub-prefecture experienced a historic Sunday at the end of June. After fifty years in the hands of the socialists, the port city of southern Brittany swung to the right with the victory of candidate Fabrice Loher in the second round of the municipal elections.

After three failed attempts, the candidate of the right won the town hall with 35.34% of the vote, ahead of the environmental candidate Damien Girard by less than three points (32.83%). The latter fails to become the first environmental mayor of a large Breton city. Lorient, stronghold of Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian who was mayor there from 1981 to 1998, therefore switches to the right for the first time since 1965.

Fabrice Loher took advantage of the division of the left which presented two lists for this second round of the ballot marked by a very strong abstention. “It is a source of great pride for our collection list. The division of the left served our interests but we had to unite, "said the new mayor on France 3 Bretagne. The outgoing mayor Norbert Métairie did not stand for re-election.
