Christian Estrosi, June 23, 2020 in his office in the city hall of Nice, during an interview with 20 Minutes - SYSPEO / SIPA

  • Christian Estrosi was re-elected with 59.30% of the Sunday evening votes.
  • He is ahead of the candidate of the Rassemblement national Philippe Vardon (21.32%) and that of the Nice ecological list Jean-Marc Governatori (19.48%).
  • Christian Estrosi plans to get back to work by not "deviating at any time from [his] validated project from the first round".

There was no real suspense over the outcome. The only unknown rather concerned abstention ... In Nice, if Christian Estrosi finds his chair hands down, far ahead of the lists of the National Rally and ecologist (with 59.30% of the votes cast), the outgoing mayor will have to be content with participation still down compared to the first round: 27.8% against 28.5%. Enough to give grain to grind to its competitors who have already planned to form a very present opposition.

“This result should call Christian Estrosi to a little more humility. Concretely, he was only elected by one in five Nice voters, reacted the RN candidate Philippe Vardon [21.32% of the votes], questioned by 20 Minutes . Hopefully this will lead him to review certain autocratic practices, without listening to anyone, as he did for his post-containment cycle paths. "

"I will not stray from our project at any time"

And the representative of the party of Marine Le Pen to encourage the reelected mayor "to question the Nice people on his project of destruction of the Acropolis palace and the National theater of Nice or failing to abandon it".

Christian Estrosi responded directly, in the evening, announcing the results: “From [this week], we will get to work. And I will not deviate at any time from our validated project from the first round, "he explained to the town hall, letting out a few sobs, mentioning the attack of July 14, 2016.

"Security must be shared between the state and the town halls," he also declared, promising "the opening of the police station", one of its flagship projects which must bring together the national and in the old Saint-Roch hospital, "within three years".

The ecological list is content with third place

Christian Estrosi also assured that his third mandate will be that of continuing to green the city, with 70 ha of additional green space. A promise probably insufficient for the Nice ecological list which bet on a second place and which must be content with the third (19.48%), perhaps paying for a missed merger with the other lists on the left.

Results in the Alpes-Maritimes

“We have achieved a historic score in Nice. We get the best score for a 100% green list among cities with more than 15,000 inhabitants. A result of this nature should give us great leverage over environmental issues, ”said Jean-Marc Governatori.

The head of the list even hoped that Christian Estrosi would delegate these prerogatives to him. The principal interested had answered him directly in 20 Minutes  : "It turns out that I have much more recognized environmentalists on my list," he had decided.
