  • The outgoing socialist mayor of Rennes Nathalie Appéré was re-elected this Sunday with 65.35% of the votes.
  • She is way ahead of the walker Carole Gandon (17.49%) and the candidate from the right and from the center Charles Compagnon (17.15%).

A big smile but no outpouring of joy. Nathalie Appéré re-elected hands down in Rennes has a modest triumph. The fault in a “particular and unprecedented” context which led nearly seven out of ten Rennes voters to sulk the ballot boxes this Sunday. But with a score of 65.35% of the vote, the strongest of the left since 1977, the victory of the outgoing socialist mayor is unchallenged. "It is a clear, clean and massive choice of Rennes men and women," said Nathalie Appéré in the salons of the Town Hall, surrounded by her environmental allies.

The results in Rennes

It is true that the merger of the socialist and ecological lists during the inter-tour-tours had killed all suspense in the Breton capital. A gathering list that has paid off according to the mayor. "Rennes is this evening at the outpost of a social and ecological force on which we will have to be able to count these coming years," she said, thanking the voters for having "made the choice of a city." of respect, of cohesion, the choice of a city which constantly strengthens its solidarity, accelerates its ecological transition and always fights constantly to defend employment ”.

"The majority will have to work with the opposition," says Carole Gandon

Behind Nathalie Appéré, it was ultimately the walker Carole Gandon who came in second position (17.49%), a short lead ahead of the candidate from the right and from the center Charles Compagnon (17.15%). "This second round was above all the victory of abstention," reacted the candidate of La République en Marche, also pointing to "a real erosion of the socialist vote". So certainly, she does not question the victory of Nathalie Appéré, whom she congratulated. But Carole Gandon is already warning the future municipal team. "The majority has gotten into the habit in Rennes of deciding without consultation, but tomorrow it will have to work with the opposition," she said.

Delighted to have been almost on an equal footing with the walking candidate, Charles Compagnon also intends to make his voice heard within the opposition, which will however have to be satisfied with a dozen positions against more than 50 for the majority. "We are progressing compared to the first round and this score makes me want to continue the work," said Charles Compagnon, who is already seeing himself "in the long term" in Rennes. The ballot boxes having delivered their verdict, all the elected officials will meet Friday for the installation session of the municipal council.
