2018 was the summer when "Sweden was burning". Since then, several efforts have been made to improve readiness around the country. Among other things, the Swedish Agency for Social Protection and Preparedness, MSB, has procured joint helicopters that will be able to move in.

- It is a helicopter readiness that we follow daily. We need to know how long it can take to get help, says Annie Lennartsson.

In addition, forest fire depots with additional equipment have been set up. Such are found in, among others, Ljungby, Vetlanda and Högsby.

Local efforts

But even locally, efforts have been made. Värend's rescue service has adapted more vehicles to work with fires in forests with, for example, transport of water tanks. Cars today also have access to drones that can give a quick overview of a forest fire. SOS Alarm was also strengthened last year with an internal commander to better distribute the forces.

But why did Kronoberg escape major forest fires in the summer when "Sweden was burning"? Was it just luck?

- If we compare with the places where large forest fires have spread in Sweden, I think it may be because we have more buildings in our forests. Then the fires are detected at an earlier stage and we can extinguish faster, says Annie Lennartsson.
