June 27, 2020 One hundred and fifty-eight homicides in the family, one every 55 hours: and in 19 cases the victims were the children. The latest Eures data, updated to 2019, confirm that - while homicides linked to organized crime are constantly decreasing - family and intimate homicide in our country now tend to represent slightly less than half of the total.

Last year, homicides in the family were 75 in the north, 30 in the center and 54 in the south, a total of 10.2% less than the 176 of the previous year: but the victims of the last four years are a total of 682. In two out of 3 cases, the victims are women (the average percentage of the last four years is 66%) also because in 48.5% of cases the victim-perpetrator relationship must be sought in the context of the couple's relationship: of the 158 victims of the past year, 48 were spouses or cohabitants, 16 partners or lovers, 14 ex-spouses or ex-partners.

The figlicides, after having recorded a disturbing upsurge in 2018 (from 20 to 33), fell, as mentioned, to 19 in 2019, with an incidence of 12.1% on the total. Still in the context of homicides in the family, between 2016 and 2019 those with two victims were 82 (7 in the last year), those with three or more victims 30. The most used weapon is confirmed as the cutting weapon (31.7%), followed by fire (27%) and suffocation / strangulation (15%) while the age group division finds that as many as 67 of the 682 victims of the last four years - one in 10 - were minors, and of these 42 (6.2%) were less than 5 years old.
