by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea June 27, 2020 The Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte had a reserved summit in Rome in Palazzo Chigi in the morning together with the President of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez al Serraj.

The face to face was organized while Al Serraj was in Rome for personal reasons. 

During the interview the position was reiterated that the solution of the Libyan crisis cannot be entrusted to the military plan. President Conte further reaffirmed the unavoidability of the political solution and the rejection of any military option.

Palazzo Chigi in a note reported how "the belief was confirmed that the solution cannot be entrusted to the military plan but exclusively to a common commitment for the revitalization of the political process for the stabilization of the country". 

After the meeting in Rome between Prime Minister Conte and Fayez al Serraj, a post on the Facebook page of the Press Office of the Government of Tripoli National Agreement, informed that the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and the head of the Presidential Council of Tripoli Fayez al Sarraj, have agreed to form a commission charged with following the recovery of the activities of Italian companies in Libya. The visit of the President of the Presidential Council to the Italian capital "It falls within the framework of consultation and coordination between the two friendly countries", we can still read.

Furthermore, the parties "reiterated that the solution to the Libyan crisis cannot be military and that everyone should work on a political path to achieve stability, in accordance with the Security Council resolution and with the results of the Berlin Conference", last January. On a bilateral level, further, Conte and al Serraj agreed to continue the "contribution of Italy to the demining process (of the areas around Tripoli) started days ago".
