  • Pandemic: the 10 outbreaks that have the planet in suspense

Italy recorded eight deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, increasing the balance to 34,716 fatalities, but this is the lowest number since March 1, according to the bulletin published today by the Ministry of Health.

On the other hand, the total number of infections has exceeded the threshold of 240,000 . Specifically, since the first case was confirmed on February 21, 240,136 people have been infected in Italy.

In the last 24 hours, 175 new infections have been detected, one of the lowest figures in the entire emergency, despite the fact that more than 60,000 tests have been carried out since Friday.

The number of people sick with Covid-19 continues to decrease as well. Currently, in Italy there are 16,836 patients with the virus, but the vast majority, more than 90%, are isolated in their homes with or without mild symptoms and not hospitalized.

Pressure in Italian hospitals continues to drop and the number of people requiring Intensive Care has dropped for the first time in a hundred, to 97, eight fewer than yesterday.

The region of Lombardy (north), the epicenter of the pandemic in the country, continues to be the most affected and accumulates almost half of the latest infections (77).

It is followed by Emilia-Romagna (north), with 42 infections in the last 24 hours. In its capital, Bologna, the closure of the plant of the parcel company Bartolini is being considered, where 64 people, workers and relatives, have contracted the virus in recent days.

In this sense, Italy, a practically fully operational country, closely follows the evolution of the outbreaks that have emerged, for the time being small.

In Mondragone (south), near Naples, the Army maintains an isolated block of buildings inhabited by Bulgarian immigrants in which 49 have tested positive and the night has passed without incident, after the latest neighborhood tensions.

In the capital, Rome, five cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours, but all attention is focused on the Roman town of Fiumicino, where two restaurants by the same owner have closed because eight infections have been registered. Regional authorities have asked all clients who have passed through these establishments since June 21 to undergo a diagnostic test.
