A heavyweight of the Gambian government will leave his post. The Minister of Justice Abubacarr Tambadou has indeed resigned to take an unspecified post at the United Nations. The former attorney's decision will be effective on June 30. He will be replaced by lawyer Dawda Jallow.

In place since 2017

Appointed Minister of Justice in 2017, he was one of the founders of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission which investigated human rights violations under the regime of Yahya Jammeh, who ruled The Gambia an iron fist for 22 years. In January, he even went so far as to announce that the former dictator would be arrested and tried if he returned to his country.

Abubacarr Tambadou, 47, has also made a name for himself in defending the rights of the Rohingya of Burma. He had therefore complained to the International Court of Justice in 2019 against Burma for genocide.
