A detached house of about 170 square meters was destroyed in a fire in Kouvola on Thursday night.

The emergency center received a report of a fire in the Rekola area shortly after ten o'clock. By the time the rescue service arrived on the scene, the house was already in the stage of full fire.

The rescue service prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings before the actual extinguishing work.

- The house was completely destroyed, says on-duty firefighter Saku Tauriainen from the Kymenlaakso rescue service.

The occupants of the house were not present when the fire broke out.

- No one was injured, but unfortunately the four cats in the house died.

About 15 units took part in extinguishing the fire. A private grapple also took part in the clearing work. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
