"The elections are not optional," lambasted the boss of the National Rally Marine Le Pen on Thursday about a possible postponement of the regional elections from 2021 to 2022, after the presidential election.

"Nothing justifies the postponement of the departmental and regional, we are opposed, the elections are not optional," said Ms. Le Pen during a visit to Fréjus (Var), where the outgoing mayor RN David Rachline was re-elected in the first round of municipal elections, on March 15.

Emmanuel Macron "opened the debate" of a postponement after the presidential election of 2022 of the regional elections scheduled for March 2021, "a moment when we must all be mobilized for the revival of the country," said the Elysee on Monday.

"This is unprecedented, it shows that the President of the Republic does not feel bound by anything, he behaves as a bad monarch who considers the elections as an optional fact and he goes so far as to blackmail the presidents of regions" about of their economic recovery plans, reacted Ms. Le Pen Thursday.

Furthermore, regarding the second round of the municipal elections on Sunday, Ms. Le Pen estimated that there could be "surprises", evoking possible victories for her party in Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales), Vauvert (Gard), Moissac (Tarn -et-Garonne), Bruay-la-Buissière (Pas-de-Calais) and Puget-sur-Argens, near Frejus.
