Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at a regular press conference on the 22nd that Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands are China's inherent territory, and China's determination and will to maintain territorial sovereignty are unswerving. The adoption of the so-called "renaming" bill by Japan is a serious challenge to China's territorial sovereignty. It is illegal and invalid. It cannot change the fact that the Diaoyu Islands belong to China. We firmly oppose Japan's relevant actions. China has made solemn representations to Japan through diplomatic channels and reserves the right to make further responses.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, stressed that the Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands have been China’s inherent territory since ancient times. China has indisputable sovereignty over this. Both sides of the strait belong to the same China and should jointly safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This matter also caused great concern on the island.
