On Tuesday, Algerian President Abdel Majid Taboun made a partial cabinet reshuffle in the government of Abdel Aziz Jarad that included energy, finance, agriculture and higher education portfolios.

In another development, the military judiciary in Algeria condemned the former Director of the Internal Intelligence Service, Major General Wasini Bouazza, and sentenced him to eight years in prison.

The last amendment did not include the ministries of sovereignty - the interior, foreign affairs, and defense - that President Taboun retained. The amendment did not affect the Ministry of Health in charge of managing the health crisis caused by the spread of the new Corona virus.

The Algerian President also appointed a new Minister of Energy, Abdel Majid Attar, to succeed Mohamed Arqab, who was appointed Minister of Mines, a portfolio that belonged to the Ministry of Industry.

Attar previously held the position of Minister of Water Resources during the era of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika between 2002 and 2004, knowing that this engineer in geology worked since 1971 in the General Gas Company "Sonatrach" until he left in 2000 and he is the CEO. Since 2004 he has worked as a freelance expert in energy, environment and renewable energies.

The amendment also included the Ministry of Finance in charge of preparing the state budget and following up on its implementation, with the appointment of the governor of the Central Bank of Algeria, Ayman Abdel Rahman, to succeed Abdel Rahman Rawya.

Abdul Hamid Hamdan was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Abdul Baqi bin Zayyan as Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and amendments were made in some ministries.

A sixth woman entered the government, the judo champion, trained Salima Swakri, as a minister in charge of elite sports, to succeed the Olympic champion in the 1500-meter race, Noureddine Morsli.

The Algerian president elected on December 12 last year formed his first government on January 2, which included many new faces, including those who actively participated in the popular movement against the symbols of the regime of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Condemn the director of intelligence

In another development, Algeria's military judiciary condemned Major General Wasini Bouazza, the former director of the Internal Intelligence Agency, and sentenced him to eight years in prison.

Algerian media revealed that the former Director of the Internal Intelligence Service, Major General Wasini Bouazza, was convicted of charges of insulting a statutory body and possessing a fourth-class firearm, noting that he is currently pending a second case that is still under investigation.

The Algerian president had ended the duties of Major General Bouazza in the middle of last April, and he had replaced General Abdel-Ghani Rachdi, who would serve on the Acting office.
