June 24, 2020 The collapse of a cantilevered concrete and brick structure in Albizzate, in the province of Varese, resulted in the death of two children and their mother. The settlement took place at 5.33 in via Guglielmo Marconi. The building is a former industrial warehouse recently converted to commercial use and the structure was anchored to the facade at the height of the roof. Two helicopters intervened on the scene, a car and two ambulances.

On the site of the collapse, in via Marconi, on the edge of the historic center of the town, the Fire Brigade and 118 vehicles are still intervening. The Fire Brigade Command is also sending specialized vehicles to the scene. On the spot also the mayor of Albizzate, Mirko Zorzo, and the carabinieri of the company of Gallarate for the first investigations of the case.

The roof collapsed for a very large portion, along the front of the building. News from the disaster site is still fragmentary. A mother with her 15-month-old daughter would have been directly overwhelmed, also the 5-year-old brother who was on a bike nearby was hit. The girl died in the hospital of Gallarate where she had arrived in cardiac arrest and in desperate conditions. A third brother remained unharmed. He was entrusted to his father and still taken to hospital in Gallarate.

The mother and the two children who died in the collapse were of Moroccan origin. Fouzia Taoufiq was 38 years old. His 5-year-old son Soulaymane Hannach was riding his bike when he was swept away by debris. Sister Yaoucut, just 15 months old, died in the hospital. Both children were born in Gallarate.

The mayor's dismay
"Later, now I can't speak": the mayor of Albizzate, Mirko Zorzo, who is on the site where the roof portion of a building collapsed that swept over and killed a mother with the her two
children. The firm where the mayor works is located in the same building where the collapse occurred.

Fontana: "Immense pain"
"With immense pain I learn of the accident that occurred in Albizzate". The president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana says this, commenting on the news of the collapse of the roof of a building in the province of Varese. "I express my pain - concluded Fontana - and that of all the Lombards by joining in prayer".
