Nine districts, 49.2 million euros, 28 actions and 1.4 million citizens. The Madrid City Council has focused on the southeast area of the city to " reduce the social, economic and environmental gap " in the most vulnerable area of the capital with the Sures project as the axis of action. A project that, according to municipal sources consulted by EL MUNDO, arises from "dialogue" and "consensus" with political parties, neighborhood associations and local forums.

The imprint of the coronavirus has also passed through Sures, which has forced the "reorientation" of some of the actions planned in a program resulting from eight sectoral working groups to "help alleviate the devastating effects of the pandemic," they indicate in the Delegated Area of Territorial Coordination.

Thus, the final document includes 52 actions to be carried out in Carabanchel, Latina, Moratalaz, Puente de Vallecas, Villa de Vallecas, San Blas, Usera, Vicálvaro and Villaverde . But the corporation, according to municipal sources, will prioritize 28 during this year 2020 to "reduce the historical imbalances" of the southeast area of the city and even some of the remaining 24 could still undergo modifications.

"From the first moment we arrived at the Madrid City Council, we have been aware that these districts suffer a severe imbalance and it was necessary to establish strategic actions," says the mayor of Territorial Coordination, Silvia Saavedra, who, together with the vice mayor, Begoña Villacís, has commanded a project focused on environmental regeneration, the promotion of culture and sport, economic and industrial recovery, the promotion of a public housing park or the fight against gender violence.

For this, the City Council will have 49, 2 million euros that will focus on the measures that emerged from the working groups and that will affect, according to municipal estimates, more than 1.4 million Madrid residents who make up the population of this area of the city.

According to this newspaper, the remodeling of Cerro Almodóvar, the starting point of the future metropolitan forest, is included among those 28 measures that will be given priority at the Palacio de Cibeles; the construction of the Blas Cabrera senior center in the Latina district , one of the hardest hit by the coronavirus crisis; the remodeling of the Santa Eugenia hotel school; the construction of a music school in Moratalaz ; the creation of an innovation center in circular economy and an ICT center, in Vicálvaro and San Blas, or the rehabilitation of the Gavia park, in Villa de Vallecas.

To this will be added an increase in employment resources in districts such as Carabanchel, the implantation of non-contact employment workshops in different parts of this southeast area, additional resources for the public housing stock or actions to alleviate vulnerability after the crisis of the Covid.
